. some important info about your grades .
. daily homework .
Practice questions, either on paper or whiteboard, will be assigned daily. Completing these questions will reinforce the material learned during each lesson. Answer will be available and it is expected that students are checking their work and or we will go over the solutions as a class. Practice assignments will not be collected daily, but they may be collected at the end of each chapter and they will count towards your effort grade. Of course, properly completing all your homework and getting help if needed will also raise your achievement grade. :)
. frequent quizzes .
Quizzes will take place frequently. They will be short and have a time limit. Sometimes we will go over these quizzes together, during class. Students will correct solutions, as needed. Other times your teacher will mark the quizzes and you will get them back the next day.
SOME QUIZZES WILL NOT EVEN HAVE A "TOTAL SCORE" ON THEM.
Most of the quizzes will NOT count towards your achievement grade, because you are still learning... They will help you to see what your strengths and weaknesses are with the current topic and will guide your studying.
. summative assessment .
Students' achievement grades (marks AKA letter grades AKA percents) will be calculated through unit tests and large projects / assignments. There will be sufficient time to learn all the topics (and or get help) before each test. This is your time to show me what you know, and how much you've learned!

. myedbc .
This year I will be using the marks program built into our school's information system, from myedbc.
Marks updates will be provided to students every 2-3 weeks, usually after each unit has been completed.
If you would like an updated grade, please get in touch.

. calculators .
If you are buying a new calculator, try to get a one with a 2-LINE DISPLAY. this means you can see what you "type" when you are using it.
The brand itself is NOT important, but it is much easier to use if you can look back and see what you have entered.

A CELL PHONE is NOT a calculator. It is very important that you have a proper scientific calculator. Not having one will put you at a serious disadvantage on quizzes and tests. Calculators can not be shared and your teacher will NOT be providing them.
. cell phones .
Cell phones are NOT to be used during class. period.
I have tried to teach cell phone etiquette to my classes but for the most part, it has not worked well.
Cell phones will be collected at the beginning of each class. If students choose to bring their phones to class and try to use them, they will be taken away and returned at 3pm.

. online help . khan academy . (and math10.ca for MATH 10) .
This website includes many video tutorials and opportunities to practice skills learned in class.
It is an excellent resource if you are absent and need to catch up on missed lessons.
Khan academy can also be used as a supplement to the lessons taught in class. If you didn't fully understand a topic, and are now "stuck" at home, search the website for a video tutorial.
click on this link and check out the topics listed in the math library :)
The biggest limitation of khan academy is that it is an American website - it doesn't follow our BC curriculum (or textbook) and certain topics may have slightly different names on the site than we are using in class. You might have to spend a bit of time looking for the exact topic you need.
If you are taking MATH 10 FOUNDATIONS AND PRINCIPLES another excellent review based website to visit is www.math10.ca
There are video tutorials (and you can print off fill in the blank notes handouts), lots of step by step examples and instantly graded self-tests.
